An unwelcome form of pain

Why is this new part of me so misunderstood?
Because you’ve closed your mind to it just like I knew you would
Opening your mouth just to target words of hate
Seemingly unconcerned about the pain that they create
Your words hurt worse than any bruise you’ve ever left behind
Fresh tears fall each time they replay in my mind
I know that I betrayed you, your unforgivable mistake
And that we once might have had a chance, but now it’s just too late
We’re both angry and I know that we’re both in pain
My only hope is eventually we can be friends again
So for now all we can do is begin separate lives apart
Wipe the slate clean, and let time try and heal our hearts
