So, that was it. Fourteen days later he was told he'd be trie in the morning. He hadn't washed and stunk like hell. He had to take out and lose his contact lenses which by now were burning into his eyes.

Luckily, his case was first up. He was led to the centre of the courtroom and ordered to stand, no chair. His handcuffs were removed but not his leg chains. They were all there looking at him, the pervert and now dishevelled foreigner. Habibah gave evidence first, wholly in Malay. Sitting in he witness box, she started shouting and pointing at Paul before breakng down into tears. The judge adjourned twice allowing her to get composed. At one point, she touched both hands to her breasts bringing gasps to the shocked courtroom. Next a shouting policemen took the stand. After much yelling and pointing, the court adjourned for lunch.

Back in the cell, Paul took one mouthful of his cold rice before a guard marched him back to the courtroom.

He stood before the judge, who addressed him in English.

Paul Michael Dixon, you have been found guilty of outraging the modesty of Habibah Mohd Aziz, on 12 June, which is against the Penal Code 47a. This is not tolerated in Malaysia, whether committed by Malaysians or foreigners. You shall receive 9 strokes of the rotan.

So, Habibah has finally got her wish. Maybe now she'll stop acting so crazy, thought Paul.

In addition, you'll serve eight years minimum in prison. At the end of your sentence, you shall be deported and barred from Malaysia.

The plane taxied along the runway. They needed this break so much. What a romantic way to spend your fourth anniversary, in Sydney.
